Best Beaches on Cape Cod

Asking for the best beach on Cape Cod is a little like asking for the best town: the answer depends on what kind of day you want. The Atlantic side offers dramatic surf and broad ocean scenery, while Cape Cod Bay and Nantucket Sound provide very different conditions.

For Atlantic scenery

The Cape Cod National Seashore contains some of the peninsula’s most impressive ocean beaches. Coast Guard Beach and Nauset Light Beach in Eastham, Marconi Beach in Wellfleet and Race Point near Provincetown are among the names visitors commonly encounter.

These are exposed ocean environments, so conditions, currents and wildlife guidance must always be taken seriously.

For a different pace

Bay-side beaches can feel completely different, particularly as tides reveal large stretches of sand and tidal flats. Families may also prefer beaches where conditions are gentler, though no coastal water should be treated casually.

Choose by location

My strongest advice is not to drive an hour simply because somebody ranked a beach number one online. Cape Cod has excellent beaches throughout the peninsula. Start with the best options near where you are staying.

Parking rules, fees and access vary by town and season, and some beaches have restrictions that matter especially during summer. Check local information before setting out.

The best Cape Cod beach is often the one that lets you stop watching the clock and stay until you are ready to leave.
